Foto Femme United (FFU) Paris and Musée de la Femme Marrakesh are thrilled to announce their collaborative effort: a curated photography exhibition entitled «Photography: the Universal Language.» This exhibition celebrates the creative voices of female and non-binary photographers hailing from or connected to the Arab World MENA region, encompassing nations such as Algeria, Bahrain, Comoros, Djibouti, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Mauritania, Morocco, Oman, Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, Tunisia, the United Arab Emirates, and Yemen.
With a deep commitment to promoting equity and inclusivity, the exhibition will take place at the prestigious Musée de la Femme in Marrakesh, Morocco, running from April 20th to October 31st, 2024. The grand opening is scheduled for April 20th at 6 pm.
This partnership between FFU and Musée de la Femme celebrates the rich tapestry of narratives within the Arab World, providing a platform for female and non-binary photographers to share their unique perspectives. Through this open call exhibition, we aim to broaden cultural understanding and facilitate a more inclusive dialogue within the artistic community, all through the universal language of photography.
Photography serves as a bridge, transcending geographical boundaries, cultural differences, and linguistic barriers. Its inherent power lies in its ability to capture moments, emotions, and stories with a visual eloquence that resonates universally. A photograph tells tales, evokes emotions, and shares experiences effortlessly, without the need for translation.
Whether documenting the vibrant mosaic of daily life, the serenity of nature, or the complexities of the human condition, photography is a testament to our shared humanity. It stands as a global language, speaking directly to the heart of our collective existence.
The open call received nearly 1000 submissions from almost 200 photographers representing 15 countries across the Arab World MENA region, with Egypt, Morocco, and Tunisia contributing the most entries.
Foto Femme United (FFU) and Musée de la Femme proudly congratulate the 14 winning photographers: Héla Ammar (Tunisia), Luana Bassil (Lebanon), Rehaf Al Batniji (Palestine), Dhiaa Biya (Morocco), Fanny Deniau El Maimouni (Morocco), Dounia Laggoun (Algeria), Hana Gamal (Egypt), Sara Kontar (Syria), Hind Moumou (Morocco), Amina Ounes (Algeria), Najat Saidi (Morocco), Camélia Shahat (Egypt), Sarah Smahane Rahhoui (Morocco), and Tanya Traboulsi (Lebanon).
